Question: How much is the bonus mana for a Magic User or Healer compared to a different class....the description says they get a bonus based on their intel/wis ......but i'm curious how much that bonus is.
Any answers? (THANKS bunches in advance)

Re: Mana? and Magik User/ Healer
Decided to test this.....so i created a Druidic Healer...natural roles of 14 for wisdom and perception both.....at end of creation he had 20 wisdom 31 perception and this gave him 72 Mana........Then i made a Druidic Rogue waited to get a natural 14 for wisdom/perception as well.....gave him the same Wisdom/Perception at end of creation 20 wisom & 31 Perception...he had 74 mana? so now i'm even more confused.....is there a random generation at creation that could account for the differance? could anyone explain to me how this works? just curious and a bit confused as to how it works......
oh i still love this game
just trying to figure out what's what

Re: Mana? and Magik User/ Healer
As a magic user, you want to keep on pumping every available attribute point into Perception, which is what primarily determines your mana regeneration rate, and also how much extra MP you get every time you level up. Your mana regeneration will eventually max out at 5 per turn, though I think the extra MP you get per level will continue to rise (though at that point you'll doubtless be annoyed by your character's low carrying-capacity and may want to start putting some in Strength). The skill "Meditation" also contributes to your mana regeneration, so if you want to minimize the time spent getting to the max regen rate, you may want to add some points there as well, though I'd guess other people would advise you to spend your Skill points somewhere else.
Intelligence determines the total number of Elemental spells you can learn (divide INT by two to get the count), and Wisdom determines the total number of Divination spells you can learn (divide by two, again). Note that you can temporarily boost those stats with rings or other enhancements to learn the spell, and you'll continue to have the spell even if the stat boost goes away. INT and WIS are only checked when you're first learning the spell.
(The Elemental and Divination Skills are what determines which spells you can actually CAST, and at what level.)
For full details on all that, and a comprehensive list of every spell, see this thread.

Re: Mana? and Magik User/ Healer
I'm actually not sure what would account for that difference... The text for "Healer" says that INT will influence the amount of MP you get, so I'd have expected your Healer character to get more MP, not the Rogue. I suspect that there are some other subtle effects which aren't actually mentioned in the text.Viktoras wrote:Decided to test this.....so i created a Druidic Healer...natural roles of 14 for wisdom and perception both.....at end of creation he had 20 wisdom 31 perception and this gave him 72 Mana........Then i made a Druidic Rogue waited to get a natural 14 for wisdom/perception as well.....gave him the same Wisdom/Perception at end of creation 20 wisom & 31 Perception...he had 74 mana? so now i'm even more confused.....is there a random generation at creation that could account for the differance?
The actual formulas for determining various stats aren't published anywhere, so our knowledge of them can only come from inference, which is sometimes a bit difficult when there's so many variables going on. I wouldn't worry about the two-point difference, honestly - if you pump points into Perception you'll find your character very powerful in relatively little time.
(There have been complaints from various quarters about mages being too powerful in Book 2, FWIW; if you wanted to give yourself more of a challenge, maybe leave Perception where it is and develop some secondary skills instead. Personally I enjoy it, after the difficulties that magic users had in Book 1 (where some had complained they were underpowered).)

Re: Mana? and Magik User/ Healer
I think there is a bug where intelligence also contributes even when not playing a mage.
Re: Mana? and Magik User/ Healer
Ah....you know...a bug giving a bonus for both wis and intel for a non Magik/healer class could account for what i saw. interesting.....either way i do love playing a Divine focused caster (with just a dash of elemental for flavor)
