Just bought game: please help with my character build

Post by revjwh »

I would like to be a monk/rogue.

I am not into replaying a game .... so hope to get it right the first time so I can sit back and enjoy the story without having to replay halfway through because of a bad character build....

Does unarmed combat work through the length of the game (I ask because many games give this as an option but compared to enchanted weapons etc. as the game progresses it becomes nerfed) ???

Do I need to take an armor (read a review where it said to definitely take heavy armor as there is no penalty) or can I survive without - i.e. are there amulets/rings/capes of protection? I like immersion so the idea of a monk/rogue in heavy armor seems.... weird.

Do all the skills work or are some broken for those who have played before?

I envision a character who stalks in the shadows, kills with a flurry of fists, has light healing magic and picks locks/traps with ease.... sort of a ninja type I guess.

Please offer suggestions/help - it would be deeply appreciated!

And, finally, GO BASILISK indie games that are quality rock my world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unarmed is quite good to have since it enables you to break open anything without a penalty. And it can work untill the end, especially if boosted by spells.

You may want to take light armor then, since leather armor and cloaks fit the monk/rouge character.

Dodge would also be a nice choice.

You wont need lock picking if you have unarmed and arent bored by hundreds of clicks. And your fists wont break when your lockpicks would.

Hide in shadows is a massive boost, especially if you have predator site/cats eyes.Though avoid fighting during the day.

Elemental magic has better boosts than divination IMO,especially for night fighters(predator sight+enkindled weapon=swift killer),but both can serve you well.

Get one level of lockpicking and skullduggery so you can gain experience from unlocking things and removing traps. More levels only decrease the experience, but save on the number of reloads.

Get some divination so you can pick up healing spells and blessing for increased damage. Also catseye spell for fighting in darkness.

Plan to fight at night and without torches using catseye spell. Use daylight to go back and loot. It won't work all the time, but there are enough places that not being hit or reduced chances by them pays off.

pedator sight is superior to cat's eye, imho, because of the longer range to see targets. but both give the "they get darkness penalties attacking you, but you can attack them fine" bit which the real point of either spell.

No,cats eyes makes a complete darkness into a partial darkness, while predator sight negates it completelly.

Predator Sight seems to illuminate your enemies more clearly, but only them, not your surroundings. Cat's Eye illuminates only a small area clearly, but you can see everything in that area.

I'd say Predator Sight is better for fighting at night, since it seems to put your hit rate on all enemies back up to daytime levels and you can usually fight standing still, or only moving one step at a time if your enemies find you. If you need to see where you're going, however, you'll need Cat's Eye, although you can use the Tab key to get an idea what's around you, as well.
