ok, I have played 1 and 2.

if there is one thing I remember from both, it was that you could really max your character better if you held off buying some abilities at character creation.

I am going for a ranger build, sneaky would be nice (but I remember you can learn those in the first big town)

I am thinking no or low magic.

I remember loving foraging, alchemy and think it was better to buy those in game.

so what skills would you absolutely start with and which would you buy in game?

advice? abuse? :)

i loved E 1 and 2, and figuring out how to min max was fun the first time but now a year later I am really just wanting to play a new character and try added areas but all my good info fell out of my brain (I blame schoolwork....)

Of course, the primary important skill is to start off with Bow Weapons. And be sure to hold back at least two points from character creation to get to 10 in the skill when you get to level 2. One level of Mercantile can help, as it will cut the cost of your basic arrow from 2 coins to 1. That can save you a LOT of money early on. It's your choice if you want to start with any Cartography or Light Armor skill. You can honestly get by without them but some people really love their mini-map. Depending on your Intelligence, one level of Lore might be helpful so you can tell the difference between a rock and a potato without having to pay someone. ;-)
