Hummph, you think its been a long wait? Just look when I signed into the forums! I discovered Book I when searching for turn-based games. Worked on beta for book I then waited and beta for book II. And again I'm waiting to work on Book III. I'm a very a patient person. You just can't hear me bitching at home!

BW, I will wait till hell freezes over if needbe. I'd rather have a good product than a rushed one any day, and so far your games have been beyond top notch. Saying I can't wait is just coining a phrase of course ^_^. I just hope I keep up and that way, on day one, I will buy Book 3.

I only bitch cause I'm in poor health and want to spend time the time I've got playing Book III. I know it's hard to make a good game and it takes time. But waiting for a GOOD game IS worth the trouble.

I truly do feel bad about how long it takes to make these games. I know what it is like to suffer the wait of a game/movie/book you want.

I have never felt good about rushing things- even with Book II, I felt pressured to release it even though I thought 6 more months in the oven would have made it better (look at at all the updates and new content we put in after we released 1.0).

I do appreciate all the fans who are waiting patiently for this final game. We won't let you down. And hopefully, if Book III does well enough, we will bring in additional people for the next game- which means a better game with less waiting on your part.

Have you thought about doing a preorder, or releasing the game in an episodic form? I did this with Dirk Dashing 2 by doing a preorder, and my preorder customers really liked it. The game story is divided into 5 parts. I released it for preorder when I had 2 of the 5 parts done. As I finished each of the subsequent 3 parts of the story, I released an update with the new levels. It took about 8-10 weeks to finish each stage, plus about 2 months of bug fixes, gameplay adjustments, and polish at the end. The preorder worked well, because customers got to play the game about 10 months earlier than they would have otherwise. And many of them remarked how they liked getting new content every couple of months, and they enjoyed the suspense of waiting to see what happens next.

Of course, you'd have to have the story and areas planned out well in advance, so you don't end up revising portions of the game after you've finished them.

It's cool that you did that, Troy. I think that works better for a platformer like you designed than for a massive open world. You have more control over where your players go next.

I agree with what was said above: I don't think an episodic format works for RPGs (I'm looking at you FF4tAY), but for a platformer or something less open it might work. Personally I don't like episodic games. I want to be able to play the whole game and would rather wait to do so. I'm only 28, I have time left ^_^.

Years after book 3 of Duncan and Mallory by Robert Asprin and Mel White I finally saw that Mel White plans to issue book 4 after she completes her degree. That announcement was a few years ago. I hate waiting.
