Food weight

Post by Ssschah »

Ok this is so late into development that this probably won't be changed but I just had to bring it up. In Eschalon Book II if you were encumbered the easiest way to get rid of a few pounds until you could find your way to the nearest town and sell the junk in your inventory, was to eat food and drink water. Now I've been thinking about this for a while and finally looked into it. The weight of the food you eat remains almost the same after you chew it up, swallow it and begin to digest it, so it shouldn't affect your current carry weight when eating food. Sorry it was bothering me had to mention it :P

Why?

You cannot possibly think that the weight of something that I'm carrying in my backpack that I decide to eat will be retained while in the stomach of a fearless hero, our bodies instantly disintegrate them!

You failed to include excrement of waste food reducing body weight. Luckily the games leave out that part of the adventure. :)

It would need to be a weight that is reduced every step or something. Otherwise our characters would become meaty Bags of Holding full of indigested food.

Now this could be interesting. It's probably not something easy to throw in last minute, but it would still throw a nice mechanic onto the game. Perhaps we should create a list of features we want to see, similar to the Book III wishlist, and have somebody make a mod that includes all of these game-changing advancements.

Then we could play through with the same story-line, but a reasonably different playing style.

Food should also restore hunger (reduce hunger?) over time rather than all at once.

A compliation of requested features would be lovely!

I think if anyone is to do it, it should be IJBall (if he has the time) seeing how good of a job he did on the Book III wishlist.

What I found too hard to digest was that one could go sleep in a corner for days and forage far too much stuff to use as well as sell.

Foraging should be much harder.
