Re-playing

Post by Vroqren »

Hello again guys! As many of you know, I recently got a new computer that can handle Book II Version 1.05, so I am playing through the game again. I have gotten stuck a few times, but always solved it. I have already beat the game, and I am fine with spoilers. I just barely took on Lorewitch to get Emberdark, but while I was there I found an even better sword. (I'm playing on predetermined seed too.) It's called "hellwrought Tungsten Great Sword", it has a base damage of 8, and does 4 fire damage. It's beautiful. Anyway, I do have some questions.

First off, and most importantly, Westwillow: Last play though I remember accidentally getting somebody to tell me to talk to the dwarf and what to tell him. Now I can't remember what I say to him to get him to open the gate into the rest of Westwillow. Who tells me what to say, and where is he?

Next, Orakur, or Fact of Fiction: I remembered reading that I needed it for something, but I couldn't actually remember what. Now that I know again, I wanted to see if I still had it, but whoops - I sold it. I assume there is no way to get it back, or another way into the Academy Dungeon place?

If I have any more questions, I will post them here as well. Thanks in advance guys.

No way to get the book back without resetting the map east of Eastwillow. Talk to Minus about exploring the dam area and he'll tell you what to say to the dwarf.

Hmm... Resetting the map isn't too bad of an idea. It's not too hard to just re-explore a little, and to get some really cheap bronze armor. I think I'll only take the book from the map though, so it's not like cheating. As much... Thanks Kreador.

Alright, here's another question: Which attribute allows you to get more mana at levels, and increases mana refreshing rates? I didn't think it was Intelligence, but what about Perception and Wisdom?

And about the answer to my first question (in this topic): Where can I find the data for just that one region? I play on a Mac, and the only things in the folder I downloaded with the application are:
Datapak
EBII (Actual application I run)
Player Manual
World Map
General.cfg
Launchscreenpak
License
README

By "the data" I assume your meaning the map to delete as mentioned on the last post?

If so it is located in your save game slot, I've no idea off hand the path for this on a Mac but if you click the copyright notice at the bottom of the main menu it will tell you.

The files you are looking for relating the region east of Eastwillow (with the dam and the uncles house) are those titled 4950.

Actually, the dam is west of Eastwillow (that's why the lost town is Westwillow). He's looking for the map with the hive and the brother's house.

On Mac, the maps are in your Libraries under Application Support/Basilisk Games/Book 2 Saved Games/ then whichever slot you saved into.

Whoops, I saw the hightlighted line and got confused

The dam is of course West not East , the number is still correct though.

The map with the brothers house to the east is 5150.

No worries. I was answering two separate questions and didn't do anything to mark it that way, so it could easily be confusing. :)

Oh, also, the most efficient way to raise mana gained per level and regeneration time is to raise Perception.

Alright, I've got another question: I've been traversing, and slaying every monster I've come across. I've done every quest except the main story line. I wanted to do Fathumurk before I even started Talushorn. I was going to start soon, but I think I'm still a pretty low level. So:

What is the highest possible level to achieve during the game? I know that it reaches a certain level, and then just takes like 9999999 exp to level up again, but what level does it go to before that?

What is the best region to just sit and camp so that monsters will wake me up so that I can get the most exp? The only monsters I'm not completely comfortable fighting yet are Taurax Legionnaires, and Taurax (Spearmen?)

Finally, what is a good level to enter Fathumurk at?

I'd say no lower than 15th and that is a squeeze unless you plan way ahead and go in really prepared.

Can't recall at the moment what it is called but camping where the screaming birds are on the way to Edon is a good spot or up where the trolls are. I don't recall if parking by the 'zoo' will get you a slew of 'bandits' or not. Been a while since I replayed.

For pure experience the area north of Edon is best. Highest experience for amount of damage dealt out.

For entering Fathumurk, the key thing is how much carrying capacity do you have for loot. I haven't heard a single player say they didn't leave stuff behind. So ogre strength for extra weight and lore spell or skill to identify the best stuff.

I got close with my ninja-style rogue. I went into Fathamurk at level 19, strength 50, unarmed combat 36 (including 2 brawler rings), and no armor... plus 2 mighty rings and 7 potions of ogre strength so I could carry out as much as possible at the end. I think I left behind 2 chests (right before the exit portal) full of heavier stuff of moderate value. That's the most I've been able to haul away with any character I've played.

There's really no need to camp for XP in the game. If you've finished everything but Talushorn and Fathamurk, you should be at high enough level to deal with either one.
