does this place lead me anywhere? and can anybody tell me what's the best attack/defense against those big beatles and hawk-ike birds and their sonic booms? greatly appreciated.

Best attack: Kill them before they are in range
Best defense: See above ^^

High perception values grant good resistance against magical attacks. Also there are random magic items granting ~20% magical resistance

Personally, I let them follow me to a river, then nip up the other bank. Then I can snipe to my heart`s content, and they can`t touch me.
